Situation
Mawsiatkhnam village lies in the northern part of East Khasi Hills district. Shri W. Lyngrah practised layer poultry farming but found the investment required for a well-defined scientific layer farm difficult to bear.
Response
The farmer modified the housing structure by placing special laying cabins just outside the shed wall. The design used the birds’ preference for corners and darker shaded spaces for laying eggs.
Result
The story reports an 80–90% increase in productivity after adoption of the modified housing structure and around 90% reduction in egg spoilage or loss. The approach also made use of locally available farm resources.
Evidence
The low-cost structure is presented as suitable for small-scale farms because the initial investment is comparatively affordable. The farmer was also recognized through several farmer awards and nominations described in the source.
